The Motorcycle &
Scooter MOT certificate
The MOT certificate
confirms that at the
time of the test,
without dismantling
it, the vehicle met
the minimum
acceptable
environmental and
road safety
standards required
by law. It doesnt
mean that the
vehicle is
roadworthy for the
length of time the
certificate is
valid. The MOT
certificate is also
no guarantee of the
general mechanical
condition of your
vehicle. The test
doesnt cover the
condition of the
engine, clutch or
gearbox.
Components to be
inspected

LIGHTS
Of the 20% failure rate
on motorcycle MOT tests, over half are for defective lights. Quite
amazing since these are amongst the simplest items to check yourself
before going to the test.
STEERING
The next highest fail rate is on steering, look at the test items
below and if youre in any doubt as to whether they will pass,
consult a qualified mot service engineer.
BRAKES
In day-to-day riding there
is perhaps no more important part of your bikes equipment that, when
working properly, may just save your life! It is also the third
highest reason for failure in MOT testing.
